根據ESPN記者溫霍斯特（Brian Windhorst）透露，六月剛率領球隊摘下NBA總冠軍的克里夫蘭騎士前鋒詹姆斯（LeBron James），已經通知騎士球團準備續約，但尚未確定續約內容和時間表。
騎士仍在協商騎士後衛射手史密斯（JR Smith）的續約內容，由於史密斯索價年薪1500萬美元，使得續約動作一直卡住。據了解，詹姆斯續約將會在騎士完成史密斯的合約後再進行。
詹姆斯目前仍跟家人在度假。ESPN 報導，詹姆斯跟騎士之間可能會跟去年夏天一樣，先簽一紙1+1短約，下季年薪約2750萬美元（約新台幣8.85億元）。如果要簽複數年約，詹姆斯可望得到起薪3080萬美元（約新台幣9.9億元）的大合約。
除了詹姆斯和史密斯，騎士為了贏得總冠軍也付出很大代價，總教練泰隆魯（Tyronn Lue）的合約也還沒搞定。消息來源指出，泰隆魯希望拿到年薪600萬美元以上的複數年合約。
騎士上季共支出1.17億美元的團隊薪資和5400萬美元豪華稅，騎士贏得隊史第一座總冠軍，付出超過1.7億美元（約新台幣54.7億元），代價不菲。
